With this win, India retains the title. Boby Singh, Korou Singh, captain Vanlalpeka Guite and Aman scored a goal each to shape a resounding victory in India’s favour. In the group league, Nepal defeated India 3-1. In the final, however, India seemed eager to take full control of proceedings right from the start.

They came out of the blocks early in the game and looked to find the gaps in Nepal’s defense and managed to take the lead in the 18th minute through Boby who headed it in at the far post after some good play. between Ricky Meetei and Vanlalpeka Guite as the latter sailed a cross towards the eventual scorer.

Guite was at it again 12 minutes later and got another assist to his name when he played a through ball to Korou Singh who just had to round the keeper and slot it home.

The second goal saw Nepal begin to attack the Indian half with much more urgency, but the Indian midfield managed to frustrate their efforts. The frustration came to the surface in the 39th minute when Nepal captain Prashant Laksam elbowed Danny Laishram in the back after the two were tangled up in a challenge – an action which was immediately red-carded by the referee.

Soon enough, Guite, who had previously provided two assists, scored a goal of his own in the 63rd minute when his cross from the left swung into the top corner to give India a three-goal lead.

Nepal’s second-half substitute Dhan Singh created a couple of chances for his side in the closing minutes, but a man advantage meant India were able to thwart the effort.

At the other end, India’s second-half substitute Aman added salt to the wounds in stoppage time, scoring the fourth goal after being put through behind Nepal’s defence.

The result was beyond doubt at the end as India successfully defended their title. India captain Vanlalpeka Guite was named the tournament’s most valuable player, while goalkeeper Sahil won the best goalkeeper award.

Head coach Bibiano Fernandes hailed the efforts of his boys. “I am very proud of my boys. A lot of hard work has been put in and all the support staff and players deserve equal credit. The efforts that AIFF is making at the youth level by offering us continuous exposure tours with the help of SAI have helped the boys with maturing.”
