Raheem Sterling robbed: England’s Raheem Sterling LEAVES QATAR and returns home after ARMED ROBBERY, FIFA World Cup participation in doubt – follow LIVE updates

England’s Raheem Sterling has returned home after an armed burglary at his home in London. While the Chelsea star was in Qatar playing at the World Cup, his house was ransacked by thieves. The incident happened while Sterling’s wife and three children were at home and the England winger has flown in to check on their well-being.

The 27-year-old was also targeted by burglars while playing for Manchester City and living in Cheshire in 2018. He is the second player to leave the Qatar camp after Ben White returned home citing personal reasons.

However, it is unclear whether the Chelsea star will return to Qatar. The 27-year-old is determined in England’s pursuit of the World Cup title and could return if the Three Lions progress. In his absence on Sunday, Gareth Southgate’s side registered a 3-0 win over Senegal. They will now play against France in the quarter-finals.

“At the moment it’s clear he needs to be with his family. We’re going to support that and let him have as much time as he needs. At the moment it’s a situation he needs time with his family for to deal with and I don’t want to put pressure on him with that. Sometimes football is not the most important thing and family should come first.” England coach Gareth Southgate said.

What happened to Raheem Sterling?

  • Raheem Sterling is in Qatar as part of the 2022 FIFA World Cup
  • Before England’s match against Senegal, his house in London was broken into.
  • His family – including his wife and three children were in the residence when armed thieves arrived.
  • Desperate, Sterling decided to travel home to check on their well-being.
  • He remains committed to the World Cup chase and may return depending on circumstances.

Sterling has developed into a key player for England during coach Gareth Southgate’s six years in charge. The 27-year-old has 20 goals in 81 international matches for his country. He featured at the 2022 World Cup in a 6-2 win over Iran.

However, Sterling may already have been squeezed out of Southgate’s starting line-up for the last eight, although he will be returned to Qatar by the fine form of Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden. Saka and Rashford have each scored three times in the tournament, while Foden provided two assists in the routine win over Senegal.
