  • 2021-22: Hyderabad FC downed Kerala Blasters FC 3-1 in the penalty shootout to win their first Indian Super League championship. Manolo Márquez’s Hyderabad had previously finished second in the league stage. They secured 38 points from 20 matches. The Nizams later won 3–2 on aggregate over ATK Mohun Bagan in the ISL 2021–22 semi-finals. Bartholomew Ogbeche was the team’s star player and won the golden boot for scoring 18 goals in 20 games.
  • 2020-21: Sergio Lobera, took the helm of Mumbai City FC this season. It was to turn around the fortunes of the club before the season of the Indian Super League. It ended up being a brilliant move. Mumbai City FC edged out ATK Mohun Bagan 2-1 to claim their first ISL title.The Islanders are only the second side, behind Bengaluru FC in 2018-19, to win the league title and the championship game in the same year. In doing so, Mumbai completed a unique hat-trick by winning the ISL title, League Winners Shield and a place in the 2022 AFC Champions League.

  • 2019-20: After two unsuccessful seasons, Antonio Lopez Habas was appointed by ATK as their head coach for the 2019-20 ISL season. The decision paid off as ATK dispatched Chennaiyin FC in a 3-1 affair to win the 2019-20 ISL championship and become the first team to win the league treble. ATK goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya’s astute performance in the championship game helped the white and red army win the coveted title.

  • 2018-19: Sunil Chhetri’s Bengaluru FC was favorite to win the 2018-19 season of the league from the start. Bengaluru also won the ISL league Shield in the 2018–19 campaign.In the end, Bengaluru FC won their first championship by defeating FC Goa 1-0 in the championship match at the Mumbai Football Arena. Rahul Bheke of Bengaluru FC scored the match-winning goal from a corner kick in the 117th minute.

  • 2017-18: The ISL received the top-tier designation from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) this year, taking the place of the I-League. Bengaluru FC and Jamshedpur FC were added to the ISL and a playoff spot in the AFC Cup is now up for grabs.At the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, Chennaiyin FC, under head coach John Gregory, defeated Bengaluru FC 3-2 to win their second ISL championship. Bengaluru FC had earlier collected 40 points throughout the league phase from their 18 matches to finish eight points ahead of Chennaiyin.

  • 2016-17: ATK won the Indian Super League for the second time in 2016 after defeating Kerala Blasters. The clash features a dramatic penalty shoot-out at Kochi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.Mohammed Rafi gave the Blasters the lead in the 37th minute in front of the stadium’s estimated 80,000 crowd. However, Henrique Sereno scored an equalizer for ATK just seven seconds later. After extra time, the match ended with a score of 1-1, forcing a penalty shootout. ATK held on in the shootout 4-3 with some impressive saves from Debjit Majumdar.

  • 2015-16: Despite disappointment in the 2014 ISL semi-finals, Chennaiyin FC beat FC Goa 3-2 in a thrilling 2015 ISL final at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa.Chennaiyin FC captain and ISL Golden Boot winner Stiven Mendoza, who scored 13 goals in the regular season, helped his club win the title. Ironically, Chennaiyin were lowest in the standings before the start of the 2015 ISL season. “Marina Machans” won four matches in a row thereafter to finish third in the standings and advance to the playoffs.

  • 2014-15: Atlético de Kolkata, won the inaugural ISL season under head coach Antonio Lopez Habas. They defeated Kerala Blasters 1-0 in the grand final.
