SAFF Women’s Championship: Indian Eves go down 3-0 to Bangladesh, SET for Lock…

“It wasn’t a good result and we were all pretty disappointed after the loss against Bangladesh earlier in the week. The hunger to score on the pitch was missing from our side and we have to play as a unit against the hosts tomorrow. We have to come back stronger,” said Suren Chettri.

“The last match was a good lesson for us. If we don’t work hard, anyone can beat us,” he added. Nepal went into the semi-finals as the top team in Group B with 6 points from 2 matches, while India finished second in group A with 6 points after 3 games.

The last time these two teams faced each other was in the gold medal match at the 2019 South Asian Games in Pokhara, Nepal, where India emerged victorious with a 2-0 victory thanks to a brace by Bala Devi. The Blue Tigresses will try to prove their mettle against the neighbors once again.

“Nepal is a strong team and they have good players. They have shown their attacking side by scoring 10 goals and we are yet to see how well they defend. We have previous experience of playing them and will be focused on proving our potential on the field,” said Chettri.

“We have worked on both our attacking and defensive areas in our sessions as there was a big communication gap in our previous match. We did not want to repeat the same mistakes again,” he added.
Nepal will play at home with the support of the crowd behind them.

However, Chettri believes that the girls must handle the game well and push through. “Football is about meeting the fans and the audience. We have to show them what we are here for. Playing in Nepal against them will be crucial for us.

If we handle them well on and off the field, we have the ability to beat them,” he said. The match is scheduled to start at 17.15 and will be streamed live on Eleven Sports’ platforms.
