IND vs SGP LIVE: India head coach Igor Stimac urges Indian football team to play ‘safe’ against Singapore

The India coach said that although Singapore has made great strides in the last few years, India have the ability to tame their opponents. A confident team India will look to take on Singapore in their first FIFA international friendly in the Hung Thinh Friendly Football Tournament at the Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on Saturday.

Singapore has made great strides in recent years. They have got a new coach who has made some changes to the system which often make it difficult for the opponents. But I will tell my players to play confidently against them and show what exactly we have in store for them,” said Stimac.

“Singapore are quite good, especially in the high pressure area. I have observed the way they push the ball all over the pitch to create things that make it difficult for the rivals. So there is a slight advantage they have in this regard,” the coach added.

The 55-year-old is aware of some of the fitness challenges his team faces. But at the same time, he believes that his players have the ability to fight on the field until the final whistle. “We must not ignore the fact that their fitness level is currently better than ours, but we must be smart and come to the pitch with our morale high.”

“I think we have enough players with technical ability who can find a way to escape from such high pressure and with many players in the middle that make it close and difficult. But we have to find places on the weak positions and play according to our plan,” Stimac laughed.

The Blue Tigers will be seen in action for the first time following their successful campaign in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers in June, where they played three matches and finished with a hundred percent win record.

“Football is a process and we have to be patient. It’s a hard-working process where you have to know what you have to do to get there in the end,” said the coach.

Stimac also mentioned the team’s performance in the June qualifiers, which is the result of a continuous process that was started for the players to prove themselves for the national team.

“We started on a long-term plan and did not expect to achieve anything overnight. We planned carefully, selected players, scouted them and gave them the chance to prove their work and then the national team shirt to wear.

“After the three-year process, we have stability, calm and certainly better prospects than it was three years ago. I am convinced that we have a better future.” said Stimac.
