FIFA World Cup Qatar: The second ‘floating hotel’ MSC Poesia docked in Doha harbor on Monday morning to accommodate the traveling fans for the FIFA World Cup Qatar. The global showpiece event is expected to attract 1.2 million fans from around the world. And amid the shortage of hotels in Qatar, the hosts have called in three MSC cruises which will act as a resort to accommodate the football-mad fans. MSC World Europa, MSC Poesia and MSC Opera are the three cruise ships that will be at the service of the fans during the global showpiece event. The ships will have modern technologies and green practices, which include versatile recreational opportunities.

Floating hotels will be among the several facilities offered by the State of Qatar for FIFA World Cup 2022. Apartments, villas, fan villages and regular hotels are among the other facilities that will accommodate fans.

The Chairman of Qatar Tourism and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive HE Akbar Al Baker said in a statement that the offer of accommodation and recreational services on board floating hotels reflects the diligent efforts made to organize the best World Cup in history.

    • MSC Poesia is a modern 4-star floating hotel.
    • It offers various room options ranging from traditional cabins with sea views to rooms with balconies and luxury suites.
    • There are several dining options and programs and entertainment for all ages.
    • MSC World Europe, meanwhile, has 2,626 cabins and more than 40,000 square meters of public space.
    • The ship has a 104 meter long outdoor walkway.
    • The ship features seven swimming pools, 13 spas and a luxury yacht club, which includes public spaces, outdoor areas and new suites.
    • MSC World Europa is the first ship in MSC’s fleet of cruise ships powered by liquefied natural gas, one of the cleanest fuels in the world.
    • MSC Opera will have 1,075 cabins
    • Rooms on the MSC Opera are expected to cost 320 Swiss francs (INR 26,209).

Qatar and MSC Cruises had joined forces in 2016. It was then that Doha welcomed the group’s first giant cruise ship, MSC Fantasia.
