Group C: Argentina vs Saudi Arabia (3:30 PM IST)

South American champions Argentina, led by talisman Lionel Messi, begin their FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign on Tuesday. The 2014 World Cup runners-up will take on lower-ranked Saudi Arabia at the Lusail Stadium in Al Daayen and are expected to sail through with ease. Lionel Messi has already declared that this will be his last shot at FIFA World Cup glory, so La Albiceleste have added motivation to go the distance this time around.

Argentina have quality in their attack and against Saudi Arabia they will be looking to not just win but lay the groundwork for the rest of the tournament. Messi will need all the help in the world from the rest of his teammates to turn his lifelong dream into reality.

Saudi Arabia have nothing to lose as pundits have already predicted that they will finish at the bottom of the points table in Group C. They will manage to grab the eyeballs if they shock the Copa America champions, but it looks very unlikely. Should Argentina lose their opening game, they will face an uphill battle to advance to the knockout stages, as Mexico and Poland are also part of Group C.

Argentina Predicted XI: E. Martinez; Molina, Romero, Otamendi, Acuna; De Paul, Paredes, McAllister; Messi, L. Martinez, Di Maria

Saudi Arabia Predicted XI: Al-Owais; Al-Burayk, Al-Amri, Al-Bulahyi, Al-Shahrani; Kanno, Al-Malki; Al-Shehri, Al-Faraj, Al-Daswari; Al-Buraikan

For the other match scheduled for Tuesday, Denmark take on Tunisia at the Education City Stadium in the opening Group D match. On the surface, Denmark looks like a more determined outfit with a perfect balance between youth and experience. The 27-year-old midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will be one of the players to watch in the tournament for Denmark.

Denmark will clearly be favorites going into the match against Tunisia, but the latter certainly have elements to surprise the former. This will be Tunisia’s fifth World Cup appearance, but they have not reached the knockout stage. The two teams have clashed once, with Denmark winning in 2022. Current form also favors Denmark, who are fresh off beating France 2-0 in their last match. Tunisia lost 5-1 to Brazil and will need something special to overcome Denmark’s challenge.

Denmark predicted XI: Schmeichel; Wass, Kjaer, A Christensen, Maehle; Hojbjerg, Delaney; Skov Olsen, Eriksen, Lindstrøm; Dolberg

Tunisia Predicted XI:Dahmen; Drager, Talbi, Bronn, Abdi; Laidouni, Skhiri, Chaalali; Ben Slimane, Msakni, Khazri

Group C: Mexico vs Poland (21:30 IST)

Attack will be the best form of defense for both Mexico and Poland when they start their FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign at Stadium 974 in Qatar. This is the penultimate contest lined up for the day and one that could prove to be a crucial clash for both teams in Group C. With Argentina breathing down their necks, both teams should be at the top of the their game. Poland have depended on their talisman Robert Lewandowski and this time will be no different.

Mexico have shown huge improvement over the years, but they will need to get their act together to come out on top on Tuesday. The previous meeting between the two sides in 2017 resulted in Mexico winning the match 1-0. In eight meetings between the two sides, both teams have won three each.

There is very little to choose between the two sides and expect the game to go down to the wire. Mexico have some World Cup experience on their side, with the likes of Lozano and Hector Herrera and Vega adding some much-needed firepower to their gritty style of play. As for Poland, veterans Krychowiak, Zielinski and Lewandowksi will carry the goal-scoring burden on Tuesday.

Mexico Predicted XI: Ochoa; Sanchez, Montes, Moreno, Gallardo; Alvarez, Herrera, Guardado; Lozano, Martin, Vega

Poland Predicted XI: Szczesny; Bednarek, Glik, Kiwior; Bereszynski, Krychowiak, Zielinski, Szymanski, Zalewski; Swiderski, Lewandowski

Reigning FIFA World Cup champions France will take on Australia at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al Wakrah, Doha. This is the last game of the day and a crucial encounter in Group D, especially for France. The defending champions have already suffered a massive loss with Karim Benzema ruled out of the World Cup.

Despite Benzema’s loss, France have the firepower to defeat Australia. The likes of Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann are expected to start as attacking forwards, while the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni, Raphael Varane and Hugo Lloris will form a crucial part of the XI. But in terms of form, France are looking a little weak, having won just one game in their last six appearances.

On the other hand, not many expect Australia to give France a run for their money. The men in yellow have done well in their friendlies and World Cup qualifiers, but to overcome France they will need nothing short of a miracle. France are expected to beat Australia and this is where Australia’s opportunity lies.

France Predicted XI: Lloris; Pavard, Upamecano, Konate, Lucas Hernandez; Tchouameni, Rabiot; Dembele, Griezmann, Mbappe; Giroud

Australia Predicted XI: Ryan; Atkinson, Wright, Rowles, Behich; Hrustic, Mooy, Irvine; Leckie, Duke, Goodwin
