FIFA World CUP Live – Romelu Lukaku injured: It has not been the most auspicious start for star players in FIFA World Cup 2022. Not a single match has started and injuries have already taken their toll on the star players. Last night, French striker Karim Benzema was ruled out of the quadrennial event. On Sunday, Belgium star striker Romelu Lukaku was ruled out of at least the first two games due to a lingering hamstring injury, according to sources. Lukaku has reportedly not taken part in the Red Devils’ training session since their arrival in Qatar on Friday. This only raises the question of whether Lukaku was fully fit for the FIFA World Cup 2022. Rumor has it that coach Roberto Martinez brought the 29-year-old star forward to the side despite knowing his physical condition. Lukaku has a fantastic record as a Belgian international and is the country’s all-time top scorer with 68 goals in 102 games.

Lukaku struggles with injuries and form

Romelu Lukaku missed the only training and warm-up match against Egypt on Friday.

Not only with injury, Romelu Lukaku has not been in the best of strikes of late. The striker has struggled considerably in the last 18 months or so, ever since his loan move from Inter Milan. He also had a poor season with Chelsea, which led to the transfer in the first place.

In his defence, Lukaku has only played two games for Inter Milan, mainly due to injury problems. Although he got going last month and scored in the team’s win over Viktoria Plzen, just when it looked like he was back to his best, Lukaku once again injured his hamstring, making matters worse for his national team.

Belgium start their World Cup campaign on Wednesday against Canada. Later, they take on Morocco in their next match and finally meet the 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia at the start of December. It remains to be seen who will replace Lukaku and manager Martinez has some useful options up his sleeve. The starting favorite is likely to be Fenerbahce striker Michy Batshuayi, who played in the one warm-up match against Egypt, which the team lost 2-1 on Friday.
