Iran has been facing widespread anti-government protests for nearly a month. Masha Amini’s death sparked protests and raised questions about their treatment of women. The letter was published by the Spanish law firm Ruiz Huerta and Crespo. It urged FIFA not to be neutral in this serious matter. Iranian law bars women from visiting stadiums, which goes directly against FIFA’s inclusive image.

This also shows how the Iran Football Association is not independent, further strengthening the disparaging influence of the government. The letter has also pointed out that national players like Hossein Mahini, Aref Ghoulami have been threatened and imprisoned by the Iranian government.

The government’s interference in national football and the constant dehumanization of women throughout the country is the core issue of the letter. FIFA has not yet made any decisions. But the pressure is growing on Gianni Infantino to speak out on this matter.
