He has been prolific for the Selecao with a contribution of 10 goals in his 29 appearances for the national team.

Earlier this month, veteran Portugal defender Pepe picked up an injury along with Wolves winger Pedro Neto, who is out of the World Cup altogether with damaged ankle ligaments. Pepe had sprained his knee in training for Porto, but the defender hopes to regain his fitness before November. Another mainstay of the Portuguese defense Nuno Mendes has also been nursing an injury.
