Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been synonymous with creating new records, writes another one for this World Cup. The Portuguese scores from the spot to give Portugal a deserved lead against Ghana. In doing so, Ronaldo broke a number of records. He became the first player in history to score in five World Cups. Ronaldo extended his record for most international goals by an active goalscorer to 118. Earlier, Ronaldo became only the second player to captain a FIFA World Cup match without being linked to any club.

Ronaldo broke quite a few records with the feat. Not only did he equal Maradona’s tally of eight goals, but also overtook some other pretty special records. Cristiano Ronaldo (37 years, 292 days) is the second oldest player to score in a World Cup, behind only Roger Milla for Cameroon in 1994. (42 years, 39 days). However, he remains the oldest player to score for a European team in a World Cup, having surpassed Sweden’s Gunnar Gren (37 years, 236 days) in 1958.

Portugal currently lead Ghana by three goals to one as they aim for full points in the opener.
