FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup: Proud of my girl’s performance but not very happy with the results, says India Under-17 Women’s Head Coach

“I’m proud of my girls for their performance yesterday, but I’m not very happy with the result in the end. But they gave it their all on the field.” an AIFF press release quoted Dennerby as saying.

“I know we’re out of the tournament but I’m still happy with the way my girls fought until the end. Our fitness level wasn’t a problem. But we’re not up to the mark technically. This is an area where we have to work harder,” he pointed out.

After keeping their rivals at bay till half-time, India fell by three second session goals against Morocco in their second World Cup encounter in front of a strong crowd at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar on Friday, October 14, 2022.

“I tried to organize our team play for so long and have practiced playing the final and the decisive pass with precision. We should have scored one when Anita was in a one-on-one situation with the rival goalkeeper in the second half,” said the 64-year-old.

“Football is mainly a skill sport and we have a bit more to do in this area. It’s the truth,” he added. Meanwhile, midfielder Shubhangi Singh, who had a good day at the office against Morocco, said “Yes, the result is disappointing, but we did our best. We wanted to take every chance we could. Personally, for me it was really a challenge to tackle and hold back Morocco’s forwards, but I was focused on giving them a hard fight. “

Despite the result, the Young Tigresses showed a fighting spirit against Morocco and dished out a strong performance at the back as well as in the middle of the field.

“The coach had a specific plan for us and we tried to follow it. We knew how to play technically, but somehow the result was not in our favor. Everyone could see that we played better than our last game , when we didn’t give up.” said captain Astam Oraon after the final whistle.

“And that’s exactly what the coach had asked us to do – to make the most of all the hard work we’ve put in over the last 7-8 months on the pitch. The penalty awarded to us changed the whole game and in the end we lost.” she concluded.

It is India’s second loss after the 8-0 defeat to USA and it has left them at the bottom of the group with no points. India are out of contention for the quarter-finals as only the top two teams from each group advance. Fans will be able to watch India in action one last time against Brazil in their third group stage match on Monday.
