The Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar will host three India pool matches on October 11, 14 and 17 this year. After reviewing the preparations so far, Chief Secretary Mahapatra directed the concerned departments to complete the allotted preparatory works by the end of September.

Progress of work regarding upgradation of infrastructure in Kalinga Stadium, upgradation of training facilities, additional parking facilities, pitch maintenance, extra power at training grounds, promotional activities like 38 days school program and city activation, city barding, hospitality for guests, players and dignitaries, organization of football carnival with about 60,000 school students etc. were reviewed at the meeting.

FIFA official Roma Khanna expressed satisfaction with the progress. She said, “Odisha is the home of hockey and now the state is also becoming the home of football”. She also praised the sports ecosystem developed in Odisha. Further, Chief Secretary Mahapatra emphasized on ensuring health, sanitation, safety and fire services.

Development Commissioner Padeep Kumar Jena advised in advance to deploy ODRAF and fire brigade there at Kalinga Stadium. All concerned departments were requested to extend their active cooperation to make the event smooth, safe and memorable.

At the meeting it was decided that public viewing of the matches would be allowed. Chief Secretary asked the Departments of School and Mass Education and Sports and Youth Services to prepare the schedule for match screening of school students at the stadium.

Sports and Youth Services Secretary, R. Vineel Krishna said “Football Training Centers (4 Natural Turf, 1 Artificial Turf) will provide ample practice time for the visiting teams without clashing in the training schedule. The main football ground, which recently hosted the Indian Women’s League and SAFF U20, is among the best football venues in India and will provide a wonderful experience for the young players”.

Three matches would be played at Kainga Stadium. The scheduled matches would be India vs USA on October 11, India vs Morocco on October 14 and India vs Brazil on October 17.
